Happy Wednesday! I’ve been doing something new lately—setting aside one day a month just for me. It’s been a small shift, but it’s made a big difference.
For a while, I’ve been dealing with something called perioral dermatitis—tiny red bumps around my chin that flared up seemingly out of nowhere. I never struggled with acne growing up, so this caught me totally off guard (and honestly, really bothered me). It turns out it’s hormone-related, and instead of just covering it up, I decided to finally get serious about my skincare.
I tried a few different lines and finally found something that works: ZO Skin Health. I was introduced to it through my esthetician Brie at Support IV Wellness and Aesthetics, and it’s been a game-changer. You can find these products in-store at Support IV Wellness and Aesthetics. I started with the starter kit to test it out, and I loved it! Now, I have the travel-sized versions to take with me on the go. Between the new products and monthly facials with Brie, my skin feels hydrated, dewy, and—best of all—I feel confident going makeup-free.
Here’s my current routine:
✔️ Vitamin C
✔️ Retinol (prescribed by my dermatologist, used at night)
✔️ Moisturizer
✔️ Eye cream (this one is my absolute favorite)
✔️ SPF (a must—this one is my favorite of the moment)
I recently chatted with Brie to ask her more about the services she offers at Support IV Wellness, especially her work with teens dealing with acne. I know so many of my mom followers are either in the thick of that stage or will be one day, and I wanted to share helpful info beyond prescriptions and harsh treatments.
If you’re local to New Orleans, definitely check out Support IV Wellness and Aesthetics. Their beautiful space on Maple Street offers so much more than facials and skincare. Think: a full IV bar, GLP-1 medications, Botox, filler—the works. It’s truly a one-stop wellness spot. Tell them I sent you!
1. Let’s start with the basics—how do you approach acne care for teens?
I approach teen acne a bit differently than adult acne. Teens are often more active, spend more time in the sun, and can be a bit more inconsistent with things like water intake — all of which can affect the skin.
I always start with an in-depth consultation where we go over everything — not just what’s happening on the surface of the skin, but also lifestyle factors like diet, stress, laundry products, and other unexpected triggers that can contribute to acne.
My goal is always to get to the root cause rather than just treating the symptoms. Surface-level fixes may give short-term results, but the acne often returns if we don’t address what’s going on underneath.
The most common concerns I see in my teenage clients are blackheads, congestion, and inflammatory breakouts. I customize every treatment based on lifestyle and skin condition — and I adjust the intensity accordingly. For example, I’ll use a gentler approach for someone with mild acne who’s often in the sun, and something more targeted for someone dealing with more persistent breakouts.
2. What products or routines do you recommend for teens struggling with breakouts?
Are there key ingredients they should look for—or avoid?
What’s one product every teen should start with?
While it's tough to give a one-size-fits-all answer, two ingredients I love for treating acne—especially in a gentle way—are sulfur and mandelic acid. They’re effective without being overly drying, which is important for teen skin.
I believe every teen should start with a solid routine that includes a good cleanser and a sulfur treatment. My top picks are the Ultra Gentle Cleanser and the Sulfur Spot Treatment from Face Reality. While this combo may not be the perfect fix for everyone, it’s an excellent starting point for calming breakouts and building a consistent skincare foundation.

8. What advice do you give women looking to improve their skin in their 30s, 40s, and beyond?
A truly effective month of skincare starts with a thorough consultation to find the products that will improve your skin-not just maintain it. Regular monthly facials are key, allowing us to perform deep extractions and address any skin concerns as they arise.
We balance in-office treatments with a personalized skincare routine tailored just for you. Remember, skincare at home accounts for about 80% of your results, while treatments make up the other 20%. Both are essential and require commitment and time to see lasting changes-much like going to the gym; you wouldn’t expect to be in shape after just one workout.
As we age, our skincare routine should focus more on hydration and support for collagen and elastin production. Since the skin naturally loses moisture, firmness, and elasticity over time, incorporating richer moisturizers, hydrating serums (like hyaluronic acid), and products that promote collagen synthesis-such as retinoids or peptides-becomes essential.
One thing women often overlook is consistent sun protection. Daily use of sunscreen is crucial at every age to prevent premature aging and protect the skin’s health. Additionally, many underestimate the importance of gentle exfoliation and regular hydration, which help maintain a radiant, smooth complexion as skin cell turnover slows down.
9. Any skincare myths you wish people would stop believing?
A skincare myth I wish people would stop believing is that treating acne means you have to dry out your skin. In reality, over-drying can actually make acne worse by irritating the skin and triggering more oil production as your skin tries to compensate for the lost moisture. Effective acne treatment is about balancing oil control while keeping the skin properly hydrated and healthy.
Many acne-fighting ingredients, like sulfur or mandelic acid, work best when paired with gentle hydration rather than harsh drying agents. Moisturizing doesn’t cause breakouts—it actually supports your skin’s barrier, helping to reduce inflammation and speed up healing.
Breaking this myth can help people approach acne care with more patience, kindness, and effectiveness.
10. For someone new to facials—what’s the best way to start?
For someone new to facials, the best way to start is with a consultation and a customized facial tailored to your skin’s current needs. This helps us identify your skin type, any concerns, and the best treatment plan moving forward. For most people, starting with a facial once a month is ideal. This frequency allows your skin to fully benefit from each treatment, supports healthy cell turnover, and helps maintain consistent improvements. After your first facial, you can expect your skin to feel refreshed, hydrated, and smoother. You might notice a reduction in congestion or puffiness, and an overall glow. However, lasting changes like reduced breakouts, improved texture, or fading discoloration usually require multiple visits combined with a good at-home routine.
Facials are a journey — with consistent care, your skin will continue to improve and become healthier over time.
